It is a Carl Gustafs with a 1916 date on the receiver and a 643,XXX serial number. It has a bent bolt with matching last three serial numbers. The numbers on the other parts also match. Everything looks good, except there are a couple of things I don't understand.
I can’t reconcile the date with the SN. I’ve read posts indicating people know from a serial number, when it was made, but I cannot find the entire list and it seems a 1916 CG should be a much lower number.
Since it is a CG, which I understand indicates it was originally an M96, is it possible the bent bolt with matching number is the original?

Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “crown / C / CARL GUSTAFS STADS / GEVARSFAKTORI. / 1915”. The left side of the receiver is marked with a “H.K” inspection stamp and with the serial number “360799”. The bolt assembly is marked with the last three digits of the serial number “799” in four separate areas. The rear sight assembly is marked “799” in 3 places. Most metal parts on the rifle are marked with a “crown” and/or the last three digits to the serial number “799”. The bottom of the grip is marked with two faded “crowns”. The marking disk on the right side of the buttstock is marked over the “2” & the “3” in the small section. Its marked over “6,51” in the large section. There is no mark in the medium section. There is a worn trajectory decal on the right side of the butt. It is correctly mounted upside down.

Barrel Length: Approximately 29 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is dovetail set, bladed post. It is marked “0” on the left of the blade & on the left side of the base. The rear sight is a flip up assembly made up of two separate notches. When down a “U” notch is used along a sliding escalator marked “3 4 5 6”. When up a “V” notched blade is used on the sliding ladder marked from “7-20”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a straight grip, finger grooves, metal nose cap, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band with sling loop, sling loop under the butt stock, marking disk on the butt and a metal butt plate. The buttplate shows small deep scratches as well as a few small dents on the edges. There are small nail holes around the trajectory decal which previously held a metal trajectory plate. The left side of the stock shows a long horizontal scrape. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches & compression marks. Many are deep and have removed surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 14 1/8 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The grooves are light grey and the rifling is deep. There is a small amount of light erosion in the grooves at the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. Areas of the metal have been treated with cold blue. The barrel & bottom metal show scrapes, scratches & thinning. The receiver has small scratches showing through the cold blue and also shows a few light scrapes. The screw heads are Show use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Swedish Mauser Model 1896 was built back in 1915 by Carl Gustafs and has matching part numbers. It has tons of Swedish markings and the markings on the receiver are deep & crisp. Swedish Mausers are well built rifles that fire the flat shooting 6.5x55mm round. The 6.5x55mm has lower recoil than other military Mauser rounds and is readily available. Good luck.

To reduce the likelihood of damage during shipping, we may disassemble long guns by removing stocks when it is possible & easy and will not damage the wood or screws. We will also break down takedowns. We have had problems with rough carrier handling breaking the stocks at the wrist, and since we have begun to disassemble, we have not had any breakage. All parts will be individually wrapped. If you would prefer to not have your item disassembled, please let us know as soon as you win the bid.
Your item will be shipped within 1 week of receipt of good funds, usually the next day. You will receive an automatic notification with a tracking number upon shipment, to let you know that we have received funds. (Please obtain a tracking number from your carrier for immediate delivery confirmation of payment). If you are in Southern California, you are welcome to pick your item up and complete the transfer at our shop in Simi Valley (M-F, 8-4 and Saturday By Appointment).
This gun can only be shipped to an FFL or C&R, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. Please include a copy of your C&R or your dealer’s license with payment. These can also be faxed or emailed. We will need CFLC numbers for CA FFL’s to ship. We are FFL dealers and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
We always combine on shipping to save you as much as we can. You can generally assume it will be full shipping charge on the first item, 1/2 on the second, 1/3 on the third, etc. Exceptions only arise when the items are going to different locations (different licenses), or when they are exceptionally large, heavy or valuable and cannot be combined.
